Developing Effective Professional Learning

I have learned that many changes need to occur in order to make PL effective. Through experience and observation, professional learning has been very lecture-based at times, leaving educators disengaged and uninterested in participating. I know all of the things that I do NOT like when I am sitting in a professional development, so I also kept that in mind when creating my professional learning. I plan on offering continuous support during the 6 week ePortfolio course. After the course is over, I will still be assisting teachers monthly and whenever needed in their classrooms. Because my course is geared towards fine arts, we will have plenty of creative activities that will allow learners to participate, collaborate and share while deepening their understanding of ePortfolios. Each time a new task is presented, I will revisit what was discussed last time, and then proceed to model for everyone. Again, this course will be for fine arts teachers, therefore I will ensure that the information is relevant to their classrooms as a dance teacher myself.

Below, I have added meeting slides from Phase 2 of my Professional learning. I decided to focus on Phase 2 for this assignment because by then, the Eportfolios would have already been introduced and a Pilot Team for implementation would have been established as well.

Keeping my innovation plan in mind, I have created a professional learning outline, a slide deck for one of my weekly meetings in Phase 2 of my PL, 3 Column table, as well as an agenda. You can find these linked at the bottom of the page. Below is my detailed plan for the 3 phases of implementing eportfolios in the fine arts classrooms. I will lead all of the meetings that will occur every week for 6 weeks. (longer if needed)
