Learning Manifesto

Since I can remember, I have performed and choreographed dances for family and friends. I loved to see and help people find love for what I also loved. I have also joked around that I am a professional student because I enjoy learning new things and look for opportunities to do so. One of the reasons why I became a teacher in the first place is because I love to see the spark in a person's eyes when they finally understand new information. The same spark I get when I learn new things. This leads me to one of the issues I see regarding digital learning in education.

We do not have many trainings on how to use different platforms. Within this short period of time, I have been blown away by the limitless possibilities with using an e-portfolio and immediately thought of all that my students could use it for. I then thought of how all students could benefit from it as well if every teacher knew how to utilize it. I have also seen how students love and "live"for technology, but cannot simply construct an email correctly.

One positive I see is that each student in my school now has a chromebook to use for their work, however, it is mostly tied to submitting work. Again, students do not even really understand how to efficiently write an email, so having them simple type their answers and submitting them is not allowing them to tap into their full potential. When teahing and implementing digital learning I hope to make an impact and that students will remember some of my beliefs as they continue their education and lives.

Core Beliefs

  • Failing is not really failure- This is true in all aspects of life. Whether it is a numerical test grade, or you didn’t get the job, you tried. When you try, you learn, and that’s ultimately what matters!

  • Believe in yourself and others! I have learned that collaboration is key! There are so many nice and intelligent people (including yourself) that have so many ideas to share and advice to offer! Take it!

  • Hold yourself accountable! Many times, we talk ourselves out of things when we feel lazy, tired or overwhelened. Remember what I just said about collaboration? Those same people will be the ones to hold you accountable, and you can do the same for them.

  • You ARE creative! Social media has made taking what others do and recreating it to an exteme! Be authentic and create something that is uniquely you. I promise it feels so much better!

  • Celebrate all wins! If you had a small goal, and you did it, celebrate ! Do not shy away from the feeling of success -you deserve it!

  • Dance like nobody is watching! I mean this literally and figuratively! Be YOU in the most unapologetic way!
