Aligning Outcomes, Assessment & Activities

"People aren't interested in what they need to do as much as they are interested in why they need to do it." -Simon Sinek

I vividly remember being in High School and hearing my fellow students whisper, or even say out loud, "Why are we doing this... when will I ever use this?" What I can't remember is the teacher's response to that question. As educators, we must always remember to help the students understand why they are learning the lessons we are teaching them.

After reading Fink's guide, I have developed an outline of my learning goals for my innovation plan of using e-portfolios in the dance I classroom setting using a 3- column table. I began with determining my Big Hairy Audacious Goal and worked backwards in order to plan my steps to implement my 8 week long course. Upon completing the course, my students will be confident, collaborative, time efficient, self reflective individuals whom aren't afraid of creating authentic articles of work. My 1st goal is that my students will not need to ask me why they need the information I teach, because this proactive guide below will ensure they know from the beginning.
