Action Research

Outline

What is the topic of your action research?

My action research is connected to my innovation plan that focuses on implementing e-portfolios in the dance classroom setting, and eventually branching out to all fine arts classrooms. I would like to create an atmosphere of authentic learning and work, collaboration, and unlimited creativity. My hope is that my students become comfortable with being uncomfortable by collaborating with their peers more often and learning skills that could enhance their future successes after high school.

What is the purpose of your study?

The purpose of this study is to explore and examine the ways e-portfolios can contribute to student engagement, collaboration with peers, creativity and document their progress throughout the year.

What is your research question?

“How does the use of e-portfolios impact student collaboration in my 9th grade Dance 1 classroom?”

What is your research design (Qualitative, Quantitative, or Mixed Methods)

I will use qualitative and quantitative methods of research.

Why did you choose this design? What data will you collect?

Both methods are necessary to effectively answer my research question. I will need the qualitative aspect to understand the way my students feel while using this new tool while reflecting on their tasks and the increased collaboration opportunities. I will also need quantitative for more concrete evidence of learning.

What data will you collect?

  • Student interviews/reflections (Qualitative)

  • Surveys: google forms (Qualitative/Quantitative)

  • Rubrics (Quantitative)

  • Observations (Qualitative)

What is the focus of your lit review?

“High School Dance E-portfolios: Promoting communication, creativity, collaboration and engagement.” The review will explain what e-portfolios are and how they can be sued to positively impact the creative atmosphere of dance class as well as preparation for life after high school.
